The Preventive Education and Community Involvement Section (PECIS) and Davao Occidental Provincial Drug Enforcement Office of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 11 (PDEA 11) in cooperation with Department of Education, Division of Davao Occidental conducted Trainers Training on Substance Abuse Prevention Education (SAPE) at Davao Occidental School Division Training Room, Fishing Village, Malita, Davao Occidental.

The PDEA 11 personnel discussed the Basic Drug Identification and Its Ill Effects; Signs and Symptoms of a Substance Abuser; Reasons Why People Turns to Drugs, Powers and Duties of PDEA and Salient Provisions of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The PDEA personnel also discussed the Article IV, Section 44 of Republic Act 9165 to exercise their mandate as the “Person in Authority” inside and within the immediate vicinity of the school.

The training and workshop was attended by 55 National Drug Education Program (NDEP) coordinator, guidance counselor and prefect of discipline of Department of Education, Division of Davao Occidental. These trained personnel will be its force multiplier in the demand reduction campaign program in their respective schools.

The agency believes that the most effective tool we have against drug abuse in our country is through proper education. As such, the youth, students and the substance abuser will realize the ill effects of dangerous drugs to human body and the consequences if they will hook into it. We are very much happy that advocates in the war against illegal drugs are increasing in Davao Region.

The training is part of the observance of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week which is celebrated every third week of November pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 124 issued last November 26, 2001.

This year’s theme “Makinig Muna – Ang Pakikinig sa mga Bata o Kabataan ay Daan Upang Tulungan Silang Lumaki na Malusog at Ligtas ” which  aims to increase awareness among Filipinos about the detrimental effects of illegal drugs and substance abuse not only on health but also our social, economic, and even political growth and development of our country.
