The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) led the Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education Institutions in the ASEAN during the 5th Higher Education Summit on Gender Issues (HESGI) on November 27 to 29, 2017 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Metro Manila.

The event gathered higher education officials and academe members from the 10 ASEAN member-states (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).  Together with University President, Lourdes C. Generalao, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE), Dr. Danilo B. Pacoy, and Gender and Development (GAD) Director, Ms. Rioliza B. Molina, delegates from USeP include Asst. Prof. Sheila Caberte, Asst. Prof. Barbara Nillas, and Dr. Salud Carriedo.

The Conference was organized to discuss the challenge of integrating gender equality in higher education so member-states can commit to a common action plan for the ASEAN region. Aside from talks on gender inequality, the Conference also presented the Status of ASEAN Women, Status of Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education, Good Practices in Mainstreaming Gender in the Academe: Policies, Programs, and Services, and Good Practices on Eliminating Gender-Based Violence experienced by the academic community.

Envisioned to become a premier university in the ASEAN region, USeP actively participates in activities that promote and strengthen ties with international linkages for possible collaborations on instruction, research, and student and faculty externship programs. (USeP PR)
