The Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies (ARENA-XI) recently spearheaded a tree planting activity at Brgy. Lasang, Bunawan District, Davao City in commemoration of the 45th Founding Anniversary of Career Executive Service Board (CESB).
A total of 400 macarthur’s palm seedlings were planted at Brgy. Lasang by the Regional Directors and selected employees from the different national government agencies.
The said urban greening activity was organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-XI) which is also part of its Enhanced National Greening Program or eNGP and in line with the priority programs of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu.
DENR Regional Executive Director Ruth M. Tawantawan who is also the Vice President of ARENA-XI said that aside from celebrating CESB’s anniversary, the purpose of the urban greening activity is to help the city government sustain Davao City’s status as Air Quality Champion.
Last November 2017, the Clean Air Philippines Movement Inc. (CAPMI) declares Davao City as a Clean Air City and gave recognition to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio and the City Council as Clean Air Champion.
Tawantawan added that urban greening can also help abate noise pollution as study shows that a 30 meter width woodlands could reduce the noise created by vehicles and industries by 5 to 10 decibels.
On the other hand, ARENA-XI President and Regional Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim of the National Economic Development Agency (NEDA-XI) said that the activity is extra special as it gives CESO members the opportunity to contribute towards the preservation and enhancement of green spaces in Davao City.
“We are confident that with this initiative, we are able to encourage and sustain a balanced infrastructure development that ensures ecological integrity and a clean and healthy physical environment at the same time,” she said.
Maintenance of the planted macarthur’s palms will be done by Brgy. Lasang community headed by Barangay Captain Allan Simo-ag.
