The City Government of Davao and Davao City Water District held a forum to promote the Davao City Septage Management Program (SMP) in Brgy. Matina Crossing on February 24, 2025.
The forum raised awareness on SMP and emphasized the importance of improving conformance with the Septage and Sewerage Management Ordinance of Davao City. This ordinance aims to address the sanitation issues in the city to protect public health and the environment.
Among the provisions of the ordinance are the responsibilities of property owners to have septic tanks that are compliant with the three-chamber standard and that are accessible for desludging and to ensure regular desludging of septic tanks and proper disposal of the collected septage.
DCWD also introduced its upcoming Sanitation Service which will provide affordable, reliable, convenient, and efficient desludging, transport, treatment, and disposal of septage in the city to help Davao City residents comply with the ordinance.
Other topics discussed during the forum include DCWD~s frontline services and the profile of its Water Supply Systems.
To date, the City Government of Davao and DCWD have already hosted forums in 75 barangays. More forums are set to be conducted to promote and gain support for SMP. (Kianna Marie A. Mendoza)
