DOST showcases SARAI app to boost climate-smart farming in Cotabato

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has introduced a digital innovation aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape of Cotabato through smarter, data-driven farming practices.

In a presentation held at the Provincial Governor’s Office, DOST Provincial Director Mike T. Mayo showcased the Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry (SARAI) mobile application, a project developed by DOST in partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

The SARAI app provides farmers with real-time, science-based information such as crop advisories, weather forecasts, and farm management recommendations, helping them plan efficiently and adapt to changing environmental conditions.

Vice Governor Rochella Marie “Ella” T. Taray, who actively joined the discussion alongside Governor Emmylou T. Mendoza, commended the initiative for its potential to empower local farmers and strengthen agricultural resilience in the province.

“This innovation bridges the gap between technology and the farm. Through science-based tools like the SARAI app, we can help our farmers make smarter decisions and achieve more sustainable growth,” Taray said.

Also present were Kabacan Councilor Jonathan Tabara, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) Head Engr. Elena E. Ragonton, and DOST personnel.

Taray said the meeting also underscored the shared commitment of the provincial government and its partners to advancing climate-smart, inclusive, and technology-driven agriculture for Cotabateños.
