The provincial government of Cotabato is ramping up efforts to further strengthen its durian industry.
Through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), the provincial government has intensified its campaign to improve the quality of locally grown durian, ensuring that products meet both domestic and international standards.
These initiatives are aligned with the province’s goal of expanding market opportunities for Cotabato-grown durian, including export prospects.
Ahead of the Launching of the Durian Export Market activity held on January 23, 2026, the Provincial Durian Technical Working Group conducted a farm visit earlier that day to the durian farm of Rico Lim and Sherwin Versola in Barangay Batasan, Makilala.
The visit aimed to assess the quality of durian produce and evaluate current farm practices.
During the inspection, the technical team discussed essential measures for the prevention and management of pests and diseases affecting durian, with particular focus on phytophthora, a major concern among durian growers.
Proper tree pruning techniques were also emphasized as part of good agricultural practices to improve yield and fruit quality.
Provincial officials said these on-site assessments and technical discussions form part of Cotabato’s broader strategy to strengthen its durian industry, support local farmers, and position the province as a reliable source of high-quality durian for both local and export markets.
