EDITORIAL: Return to normalcy

Davao City is slowly returning to a life closer to what it used to be.

Although the pandemic is far from over, Dabawenyos can at least enjoy a life without curfew and a relaxed alcohol restriction.

Executive Order (EO) No. 59 Series of 2021 took effect on Tuesday. EO 59 provides for a “modified guidelines on liquor ban and the lifting of curfew within the city.” The order stipulates that selling liquor shall be allowed only from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day.

Within that period, no person or entity shall sell liquor or any alcoholic beverages. The order will take effect from 12:01 a.m. on October 26, 2021, to 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2022.

Given that the situation has improved for Davao City, the relaxed measures cannot be taken for granted. We have to remind ourselves that Covid-19 is still a threat and cannot be disregarded.

Relaxing the hard stance should be matched with the same intensity to get more people vaccinated.

There is no way we can let our guards down.
