The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI gave recognition to the Davao Region “Makabagong Rizal Awardees” during its meeting on July 20, 2011 held at the NEDA-RDC XI Convention Center, Bangkal, Davao City. Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, RDC XI Chairperson and Regional Screening Committee Chairperson for the Search of Jose Rizal Awards in Davao Region awarded the plaques of recognition to Ms. Ellen Joy T. Cajes of the Maryknoll High School of Panabo City, Ms. Carla Beatriz H. Lazara of the Philippine Science High School-Southern Mindanao Campus, and Mr. Percival Adonis J. Casiño III of the St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc. for their notable achievements and remarkable dedication to model the teachings and principles of Dr. Jose Rizal and for bringing honor to Davao Region.
The search was in line with the celebration of the 150th birthday of our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, on June 19, 2011. The Philippine Center for Gifted Education (PCGE), in cooperation with other agencies, conducted the search for the 35 gifted Filipino children and youth who are willing to take an oath to model their lives after the principles which Dr. Jose Rizal espoused, i.e., love for GOD and country, integrity, valor and excellence in their respective areas of ability, interest and talent, as well as, help elevate Filipino consciousness for a life of integrity, dignity, truth, and honesty.
It is with great pride that the Council recognized the three young awardees who were among seven nominees submitted by the Regional Screening Committee to the national awards body. The young awardees took their oath on June 17, 2011 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Manila after a two-day orientation and training.
During the said meeting, the RDC XI also awarded Certificates of Appreciation to the members of the Regional Screening Committee for their invaluable contribution rendered during the regional screening process for the selection of the nominees of Davao Region to the Jose Rizal Awards.
