Clearing and debris removal efforts in earthquake-affected areas of Sarangani have been strengthened following the deployment of additional heavy equipment from private construction firms, in response to the call of Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck on June 8, 2026, caused significant damage across parts of Sarangani and nearby General Santos City, prompting intensified response and rehabilitation efforts.
Among the equipment sent are two excavators and two dump trucks, which are currently en route to support ongoing clearing operations in severely affected communities.
Mendoza also directed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to maintain a high alert status, particularly for its first responders, in anticipation of further assistance needs in affected areas.
Mendoza, chairperson of the Regional Development Council XII (RDC 12), expressed solidarity with affected residents, offering prayers for their safety, swift recovery, and resilience as rehabilitation efforts continue in the aftermath of the earthquake.
She also thanked Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon for reaching out to coordinate and for assuring the agency’s readiness to extend support to impacted communities.
Dizon personally inspected earthquake-affected areas in Sarangani Province and General Santos City on Tuesday.
He ordered the immediate repair of national roads and bridges in both areas that were damaged by the earthquake following his inspection.
He also directed the concerned district engineering offices to expedite repair works to ensure the uninterrupted movement of goods, medical teams, and emergency responders, as part of efforts to support ongoing relief, medical, and emergency response operations in quake-hit communities.
