I can’t believe she is gone. Undeniably, past President Corazon “Cory” Aquino was and still is a positive influence to many Filipinos even to those who were still babies at the time the EDSA Revolution happened. Cory was a Filipino icon, a shining example of humility, strength under pressure and unswaying trust in God even in the face of diversity. Although I was just in grade school back then and didn’t understand much. It is now that I realize and understand that all the civil liberties we enjoy today were achieved thanks to her. We will all miss you Tita Cory.

I was a freshman in UP in 1986 and kept vigil in EDSA, PTV4, Mendiola and eventually marched to Malacanang on that fateful night of the Marcoses’ departure. That experience pushed the height of my confidence in the Filipino. President Aquino shone brightest for us at a time when we were in the darkest moments. And her faith manifested grandest in her and our long nights of adversity.

Cory Aquino, to me is someone who can’t be thought of as a politician in the tainted sense that is usually perceived. She was someone pure, someone whose humanity and image are intimately connected. Her stand and triumph during the staggering crisis that shook her and her family’s life is something that will always make her a lingering presence and admired figurehead in the minds of Filipinos. Throw in the fact that she is a woman and that makes her life and demise very personal.

I still remember the day how I took notice of Mrs. Aquino, I was in mid-high school. The country was in chaos the political scene was so filthy due to the reigning dictator, finally people decided to take a stand armed with a widow in yellow. She indeed made a big change since. I hope there are more ‘Cory Aquinos’ and hope that her legacy of peace and unity be carried on. P.S. Her cause was the only thing that made me wear yellow and i dint have second thoughts of putting it on.

Cory was like a mother tiger to me. As a wife and mother, she was submissive and protective of her family, she did everything she could to keep her family together inspite trials and controversies. Like the tiger, once provoked, she turned into a ferocious protector who was ready and willing to engage in battle with her undying courage. She showed me that the real soldier of life is the WOMAN. She has real strength that lies in her courage, bravery and conviction to do what she thinks is right and to stand up for what she believes in.
