Meet the 4 lady pianists

Concert set on December 5 At CAP auditorium

FOUR accomplished lady pianists of Davao City will again wow local music lovers with their rendition of classical tunes and OPMs (original Pilipino music) during a rare concert at the CAP Auditorium on Anda St. this city in the evening of December 6.
The four pianists, successful career women in their own rights, have graciously granted the request of the Rotary Club of East Davao led by Roni Go to help Rotary’s global effort to raise funds to combat the last vestiges of the debilitating disease of polio.  
They are Daphne Cabaguio Jocson, Mila Cabaguio Jocson, Evelyn Abellera-Magno and Ma. Luisa “Inday”  Fucoy-Montero.
Daphne Cabaguio Jocson started her training with Ms. Encarnita Fernandez. It was these 13 years with her that Daphne was taught the right musical discipline.While pursuing her Bachelor of Music Degree at St. Scholastica’s College in Manila, she was molded to maturity by the late Ms. Araneta Lim and refined by concert artist, Ms. Virginia Laico Villanueva. Daphne broadened her musical horizon under Ms. Vera Berskaya and Dr. Hugo Goldenzweig at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and performed solo and chamber music recitals in her school and around the city.  She also trained under Ms. Nancy Garneiz of the Alaria Chamber Ensemble in New York.
Mila Cabaguio Jocson is an A B.M. graduate of Fernandez Piano School. Aside from private piano teaching Mila also taught music in Ateneo de Davao University, Philippine Women’s University and Stella Maris. Together with Celine Dacudao Garcia, Nelly Domingo Castro and Inday Fucoy Montero, they formed the original Davao Piano Quartet 22 years ago. The group made several music-for-cause performances in Davao City, Tagum, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro for organizations such as Mother Ignacio Foundation, Ladies of Charity, St. Scholastrica’s College, Rotary Clubs and Mother Butler Mission Guild.
Evelyn Abellera-Magno is a lady who has proved her competence from the schoolroom to the corporate boardroom and back to her music which lifts her spirit and soothes her being from the stresses of the world. Her string of academic credentials include degrees in Piano Music, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, and Education Administration which gave her such honors as TOWNS (Ten Outstanding Women in the National Service) awardee, a grantee at the Harvard University School of Education at Cambridge, Massachusetts and past Governor of Rotary International District 3860. As pianist, she was mentored by Lucrecia Kasilag, Olga Iflande de Wit and Indiana University School of Music at Bloomington, Indiana USA. She is a dedicated pianist and enjoys performing if the event is for a good cause. As a PDG, she received three international appointments – RIPR in 2006-07; Annual Programs Fund Coordinator for the whole ten (10) Philippine Districts in 2008-09 and ARRFC for Indonesia and the Philippines in 2009-10.
“Inday” Montero attended the Conservatory of Music at St. Paul’s College of Manila under the tutelage of Sony Lacson and Carmencita Arambulo eventually earning a Bachelor of Music degree under Stella Goldenberg Brimo. Aside from being a pianist, she has trained and conducted several choral groups in Davao City, including the Davao City Choral Ensemble, the Brothers in Harmony the prize-winning P:C-INP RECOM “Convert Choir and the LCB Performing Arts Music Class. Being an original member of the Davao Piano Quartet which started in 1988, she absolutely enjoys making good music, performing with the group and sharing her talent and skill with the music lovers of Davao.
