PEOPLE nowadays love to wear symbols of their heritage on their sleeve. Most of us have rightly dusted off the notion that being filial to one’s country is only for people in the right wing. The outline of our beloved archipelago etched proudly on everything from polo shirts to dresses is an increasingly familiar sight and is giving our sportswear a nationalistic kick. Cheeky renditions of our national symbols and even sayings given a native spin via our local dialect figure prominently onto t-shirt stand in stores and malls. This pride in where we’re from even extends to where we spent years toiling over books. Wearing your university jacket or buying a brand new one at your local sports shop and getting your kid his own mini version shows how one never quite gets over alma mater fever. Fashion spiked with local flavor and a tinge of your personal bearings truly never gets old.
This holiday season, stationery company For the Love of Prints (FTLP) teams up with COED Clothing Co. to debut HOMEBOUND – a unique 2010 planner purposely made for Davaoeños who are proud of the city’s culture. They have drawn inspiration from locale pride to create a literal bound reminder of the things, places and qualities that make Davao City special. Their mastery of the local landscape is given a graphic design spin on the planner’s pages and some of them even double as postcards that you can send out.
A flip through the planner is a twofold way back home. For one, the makers demonstrate that they knew were it was at. They’ve put together the names of old haunts where Davaoeños used to shop, spend their nights out and dine and the many who will read their listings will sit back with amusement and be flooded with memories. Another way that it encourages people to take to the streets at leisure is through the smattering of coupons that you can put to good use in local establishments that the city’s denizens boast as their very own.
This clever piece of modernized memorabilia retails at P375 and will be available at Sunlab Davao & Gensan, Fully Booked branches and National Bookstore (Davao branches). A first of its kind, this is part conversation piece and wholly a compilation of reasons why being from Davao is something that should matter. Chalk this up as one for the hometown.
