DAVAO-based oil company Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. celebrated a blessed 2009 with a fund-raising party to benefit its foundation’s beneficiaries.
“A good business is not just a profitable one,” Phoenix President and CEO Dennis A. Uy said at the 2009 Business Partners Appreciation Night, December 9 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center. “More importantly, a good business is good to the community. A good business is good for the country.”
The party, with the theme “One Night to Care,” was attended by hundreds of business partners, dealers, suppliers, and guests from Mindanao and Manila. Many donated to the Phoenix Philippines Foundation which has been actively serving communities through corporate social activities.

Foundation programs
The Phoenix Philippines Foundation’s programs focus on environment, education, health and safety, disaster relief, and outreach.
Phoenix Foundation adopted three kilometers of the El Rio Vista Riverbank as part of the Adopt a River-Save Davao River Project. Phoenix also regularly participates in coastal cleanups in its Davao and Batangas areas.
The Phoenix Petroterminals and Industrial Park in Calaca, Batangas is home to the Pawikan Conservation Project. Pawikan eggs are incubated at the make-shift hatchery outside the terminal walls, and eventually released to sea.
Through the Adopt-a-School program, Phoenix Foundation sponsors two pre-school teachers of Hizon Elementary School in Davao City and the teachers of the Phoenix Alternative Learning System Programs at the Doña Asuncion Hizon Elementary School.
Phoenix regularly holds outreach programs to the less fortunate, blood-letting drives with its staff, and firefighter trainings. Phoenix also donates to victims of disasters, such as the landslide in Compostela Valley and typhoon Frank in Aklan last year, and most recently of typhoon Ondoy in Marikina.
In December, Phoenix Philippines Foundation formally turned over two houses to the Comval landslide victims – beneficiaries of the Uswag GK Designer Village in Brgy. Kinuban, Maco. The victims built a total of 204 houses with the help of the Comval government, DSWD, Gawad Kalinga, and sponsors like Phoenix Foundation.
Phoenix President Uy said its foundation’s programs exemplify “more than stewardship and generosity. It’s about leadership. As a company, we need to show leadership in the communities we serve. When they think of Phoenix, they will think not only fuel but a company that fuels life. We are proud to be homegrown – all the more reason for us to take the first step in empowering people.”
Said Uy, “Every time we build a Phoenix station, we want the community to think that this is the start of good things to come.”
