If you have been an active participant in the local party scene you would know that it is not exactly exciting. The truth is, partyphiles are known for changing preferences (and no, I do not mean the sexual kind) when it comes to partying and the products they enjoy during parties and nights out faster than you can say “one bucket of beer”. The problem ensues when the changes in the scene cannot keep up with the common partyphile’s lust for change. So, the search for the next “in” thing in Partylandia is always a tough one. Thankfully, the Partyphile gods have gifted us with ten new things to enjoy. Here is the run down of my new Partyphile finds:
9 Q Bar Gen San- The resto bar in Gen San is starting to invite a huge slew of Davaoeno party-goers because of its posh interiors, and laid back atmosphere. The resto bar simply lets you party as you may. If your idea of a weekend off is dancing to the beats of a hot DJ, they got that covered. If your idea of a weekend off is having some steak and pasta with your friends, they got that covered. If your idea of partying is going out with your best outfit on, you would not feel out of place in Q Bar, because they got that covered. If you like simple cold beer, they got that covered as well. If you like interesting cocktails, they got that covered. If you simply want to drink in a simple shirts-and-shorts get up, they do not mind, because again, they have everything you ask for covered. Q Bar seems to be the perfect place because it is posh, but is no frills, no nonsense, and they let you be. And isn’t that sense of freedom what partyphiles crave for? Q Bar is at the Sun City Hotel Compound along the National Hi-Way.
8 San Miguel’s Oktoberfest Beer- Oktoberfest is about drinking beer, and lots of it. This is probably why San Miguel recently launched their limited edition Oktoberfest beer which contains a measly 3.6% alcohol. What does this mean? This means, you can drink more beer without getting drunk, and celebrate Oktoberfest the proper way (with the most beer you can consume). I buy my Oktoberfest beer at 147 Beer Avenue at the Legaspi Compound and at Case de Amigos along Ponciano Street.
7 Goldschlager- I know, I know. Goldschlager is not exactly a new drink but it is one of my more recent discoveries. Also, I have been to several parties recently wherein they served this golden liquor to the (pleasant) surprise of everyone. So what is it exactly? It is cinnamon schnapps with 24 karat gold leaves floating inside the bottle. What are schnapps? Schnapps are liquors with added sugar. Is it sweet? Definitely. Is it strong? It is 40% alcohol, so if you consider Tequila to be strong, then yes, it is. And oh, just in case you were wondering, yes, you actually drink the gold. And yes, gold is actually edible. And no, you do not pee or “release” golden bowels the next day.
6 Black Rhubarb Hookah Lounge- What started as a quaint patisserie at the Legaspi Suites Compound has now beeen reincarnated as a Hookah Lounge. So what is hookah Most locals refer to it as Shisha. However, the rest of the world calls it hookah. It is an apparatus that is used to inhale steam from tobacco (instead of smoke). Black Rhubarb has different flavoured Hookah tobacco which go for a hundred bucks.
5 Beer Cupcakes from Johnny Cupcakes- These cupcakes are the perfect gift for the Partyphile with a sweet tooth, or the perfect thing to bring during Partyphile Potlucks. These cupcakes are actually chocolate cupcakes with dark beer in the batter. It is topped with cream cheese (I think) and tastes divine. They go for forty pesos a piece and you can check their store out at the Valencia Compound behind the Central Bank. Oh, and the beer cupcakes are only available during Thursdays.
4 Spice Boy Gourmet –If you are throwing a party and do not know how to cook, try to contact Spice Boy Gourmet on their Facebook account and check out their catering services. However, if you planning to throw a smple get-together with only a handful of guests, you may ask them to deliver their signature rice toppings or pasta dishes right at your door. Feel like getting a fix for your sweet tooth, they also offer delectable Carrot cakes, super gooey Revel Bars, and an Ice Cream cake that is enough to give every Chocoholic a Choco-Coma.
3 Kamagoo’s Lycheee Martini- This refreshingly icy drink has been the talk of the cocktail-drinking town for quite some time now. The Lychee Martini at Kamagoo actually resembles a margarita but is (probably) Gin or Vodka based (Margaritas are usually Tequila based), thus the name Lychee Martini. It is one of the most refreshing drinks, this side of the world and does not exactly break the bank. A glass costs 90 pesos while a pitcher costs 350 pesos. Since it does not give you a really strong kick, my friends and I order one pitcher per person. Yes, it is that good.
2 C 24/7 by AIM Global. So I am not one to actually promote food supplements because I do not actually take them, but I started taking this one from AIM Global (their office is at the Grand Men Seng building) because, well, it got rid of hangovers. Take it thirty minutes before you start drinking or two hours after you stop drinking, and wake up hangover-free. Does it really work? Oh yes. Plus, if you are health conscious (which, I’m not) you might also appreciate the fact that it has several minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and has whitening properties and appetite suppressants. So not only will you get rid of your stupid hangover, but you also get whiter, slimmer, and healthier in the process.
1 Photo Qube – If you are looking for hot souvenirs for your next event or party, call the guys from Photo Qube up at their numbers 09177008933 and 09228805025 or visit their Multiply site at http://photoqube.multiply.com/. So what is a PhotoQube? It is pretty reminiscent of those old school booths you used to go and get your 1×1 photos in. You know those small booths that you step inside of to get your photos taken and then wait for the print outs a couple of minutes later? The PhotoQube is basically that, but with sooo much more options like wigs, costumes, and different-themed layouts. Now that makes for a truly wonderful souvenir. Oh plus, they give the party organizer a dvd copy of all the photos.
That wraps up my nine picks for this season. Try to experience all of these before the New Year because there is sure to be another slew of must-tries by that time.
