Welcome 2011 with a bump and a shimmy at the Marco Polo Davao’s Countdown Party on New Year’s Eve, December 31. Route 70, a celebrated retro band, shall be in town for the “Flashback to the ‘80s” dance party.
Route 70 is a mélange of seasoned musicians from the popular bands of the ‘70s to the ‘90s, such as Hotdog, Family Birth Control, Music and Magic, Manila Band, Law of Gravity, Rubbberband, Power Play, FourPlay, Soulid and Pido with Take One.
A nine-member Manila band, Route 70 distinguished itself by winning the Aliw Award for Best New Artist (Group Category) in 2003. Songwriter Dingdong Eduque, Maso Diez-Rivera, and Leroy V. Cusi are the vocalists. The other members are Ernie Baladjay (keyboards), Bobby Taylo (bass guitar), Benjie Ijiran (drums), Oscar Hernandez (trombone), Raymond Agtarap (trumpet), and Butch Elizalde (lead guitar).
Starting off with slow jams or cool ‘80s music, they shall move on to a fast dance repertoire that is guaranteed to get everyone into the groove.
“We capture the funky beat that we remember from the past,” Eduque said, “with live horns!” “We have great trumpet and trombone players that make for more robust and richer dance music,” he added.
Rock all the way to 2011 with Route 70 and Davao’s own Kardam at the Marco Polo Ballroom on 31 December.
