I will be honest, I am quite a talkative bugger. So talkative at times that I feel I should have my own talk show to discuss anything and everything anyone can think of. Pardon me for talking when my mouth is full, but to merely sit down and converse is nothing compared to lounging about and conversing with great food in hand and mouth.
Where everyday is a Friday
It was a Tuesday afternoon when Mr. Ajero called me up telling me to haul my sorry ass over to T.G.I.Friday’s at Abreeza to have dinner and to meet the people behind Friday’s. He did not have to tell me twice as memories of the original Friday’s at the Glorietta and St. Francis Square in Ortigas flood my brain.
I remember tasting my first Buffalo Wings and crispy Potato Skins and loving it. I also remember the humongous Baby Back Ribs and succulent Jack Daniel’s Burger that look like they are literally made out of a whole pig and a whole cow respectively, they are just humongous! And I am glad to report to everyone that Friday’s Davao has kept the same American super-sized portions for everyone to enjoy.
Add to the mix every Dabawenyo’s love for sharing meals and passion for living and you have a great recipe for interesting conversations. I would suggest ordering Friday’s Three-For-All platter for such occasions but of course everything at Friday’s is big so coming together to meet and chitchat is easy. Never mind that is a Monday or Tuesday or any other day, because every day is a Friday at Friday’s.
A pizza party goodbye
Time flies so fast these days specially when you have great company. And after his two-year tour-de-force stint as the general manager of the Marco Polo Davao, Nigel Fisher invited local media friends to the exclusive preview of the lounge area located at the Marco Polo’s Deck.
We were also treated to Nigel’s signature gourmet pizzas and I am not talking about the usual tomato-based round doughs smothered in fattening cheese. These gourmet pizzas that are only available at the lounge area feature such divine toppings like Smoked Salmon, Creme Fraiche and Dill; and Fig Jam, Prosciutto, Agurula and Blue Cheese.
Everyone had a blast as they took turns grilling Nigel (not the pizzas) on his Davao experiences, adventures and misadventures. And Nigel, game as always, took on the grilling with his usual humor and panache. It could also be that the comfy lounge furniture, cozy ambience, fabulous food and wine made everyone relaxed and have a good time.
Three cheers to Nigel on his new assignment in China. You will always have a home in Davao.
