For the uninitiated, appreciating wine could sound like Greek to the Chinese but many thanks to both Ralph’s Wines and Spirits, and Lagarde Wines we can learn to understand a bit of Greek.
Both wine distributors had a set of new world wines from two southern continents to tickle every guests’ palate. Up first were Saint Clair wines from New Zealand and distributed by Ralph’s Wines. I personally loved the Saint Clair Vicar’s Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2009. With its crisp fruit flavors and lifting aromas of grapefruit and passionfruit, the Saint Clair Vicar’s Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2009 is a wine that one can easily enjoy with fish at the beach or alone on a warm evening.
Another winner from Saint Clair is the Vicar’s Choice Pinot Noir with its bright ruby color and lifted notes of berries. This medium-bodied Pinot Noir tickles the palate with cherry and raspberry flavors caps everything with a long lingering savory finish.
Coming from Argentina, the wines from Lagarde are always a delight to taste. My personal favorite is the Altas Cumbres Cabernet Sauvignon 2008. With an intense red color and clean, fresh aromas of berries, plums, figs and pepper, this Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with cheeses, red meats and strong sauces.
But of course don’t take my word for it since it is still best to visit the Swiss Deli and taste and experience these wines for yourself. Who knows, you might finally understand some Greek after a few tipples.
