The University of the Philippines Mindanao celebrates a milestone with the inauguration of its Oblation Plaza and time capsule installation. Present for the landmark occasion are UP president Alfredo Pascual, UP-Min chancellor Gilda Rivero, UPAA-Davao President Doris Tagle-Villareal and members of UPAA-Davao’s board of directors and officers.
The UP-Min Oblation Plaza is as much an integral part of the campus as the Oblation embodies the aspirations and values of every individual who is part of the University of the Philippines. “This is an opportunity to give back to our beloved alma mater and supporting the university in its heroic endeavors” says UPAA-Davao President Doris Villareal “Maraming maraming salamat to all the alumni here present for witnessing a milestone of a project that took 15 years to be started and hopefully it will not take another 15 to be completed. Your relentless support, generosity and presence make our mission possible.”
Doris Tagle-Villareal also outlined the thrust of UPAA Davao in the coming months with the holding of a fundraising golf tournament at Apo Golf and Country Club for the completion of the Oblation Plaza and for the UPAA-Davao’s Math Literacy Project. “UPAA Davao in partnership with UP Mindanao and DepEd will train elementary public school teachers to teach Math effectively and creatively to improve our Math scores in the next five years or so.” says Villareal.
An Oblation fun run and lantern parade will also be held at the UP-Mindanao Campus on December 16 to help raise more funds and to encourage fellow alumni to visit the campus and to relive the traditions of the University.
