One would be amazed on how shabby chic the place looks from the outside. I know, I have been in their Mabini branch more than once and I have enjoyed every “bite” off it. Indeed, I have loved Trellis and Vines since the moment I first took a bite off their infamous Chicken Biryani with Mango Chutney. More so, back when I was still in school, my classmates and I would at times drop by after class to have our dinner there.
Business started for Trellis and Vines back in 2003 with their first ever branch at Bangkal. Owner and hands-on restaurateur Ms. Divine Magtoto admits that it was not an easy breezy ride when she was starting that is why she is quick to add that everything in the restaurant she oversees even the menu. Yes, she sees to it that everything is at par and is divinely delicious before dishes are served to the customers. “You have to love your food first to convince your customers that (it) is good”, she adds.
With good quality food and big servings, you would assume that the price is beyond the normal. However, when you dine in Trellis and Vines you would be amazed on how affordable and budget friendly their prices are — a definite ‘edge’ amongst its many competitors. More so, what I personally love about the restaurant is their well-rounded menu – there is definitely something for everyone. You would be treated to a tour around the world with their selections. No travelling and jet lag experienced!
Ivan, Lendle, Jacob and Michelle, including myself, met up with Ms. Divine in her Torres branch (Torres compound, beside Yahong restaurant). Joined by her friend, Ms.Verna, the night was filled with merrymaking as feel good conversation took place as we were savoring every bit of food in the table.
Green Seafood Soup
The pureed vegetables combined with the tofu make this one superb dish to start your meal. It is extremely savory and the interplay of flavors allows you to have an indefinite palate explosion in your mouth. I personally love the smoothness of the soup as it allows you to appreciate the different ingredients used. I advise you savor it while its hot and feel the magic in your mouth.
Beef Biryani with Mango Chutney and Cucumber in White Sauce
I have only tasted their chicken version of this. I was simply amazed with the beef’s tenderness and the flavored rice. More so, the mango chutney pairs well with kick that the beef has. Though tolerably spicy, the cucumber in white sauce ensures that the palate is soothed with every bite. I would definitely have another of this – soon.
Hot Prawn Salad
The hot prawns combined with the sweet salad and the juicy fruits gives forth a different level of excitement with every bite. The combination of flavors lingers in your mouth and makes you dig in for another bite. That’s what we did, a constant digging with our forks. A recommended dish that would satisfy one’s hungry tummy.
Boneless Bangus topped with Sautéed Vegetables
I personally love the combination between the fish and the veggies. The fish tasted so fine and it just melts in your mouth. Even the skin tasted so good. I highly recommend this one.
Baby Back Ribs
Well, this one is a staple in our every meal. Again, the boys loaded their plates and munched like there was no tomorrow. Divine said they have a spicy flavored one. But, knowing how the boys love their baby back ribs, it was gone before I could even remember. They said that it was tender and juicy to the bones and that the sauce (basting) compliments the meat and you could savor it with every bite.
Indeed, a truly divine night at Trellis and Vines. Visit them at their Mabini or Torres branch and experience a meal like no other.
