Philippine fashion design luminary, Rajo Laurel was recently in Durianburg for an exclusive trunk show at the Dusit Thani Showroom at the Lanang Business Park from November 24 to 26.
No thanks to some urgent work concerns, I got to the opening of the event late. Luckily I was able to catch up with Rajo during the lunch break to pick his mind on his latest collection as well as fashion trends he sees for 2018.
What is your collection all about?
The Holiday 2017 Collection we have for this trunk show features pieces we brought to Paris Fashion Week. The pieces are inspired by memories when I was five.
You can see modern adaptations of voluminous ruffles and extravagant bows with notes of fun memories from the past.
Any resign trends you see on the horizon?
For Spring and Summer 2018 it will definitely be about colors with some prints and patching in a nod to the 70’s. I believe pleats will also be strong in 2018 wth soft and feminine silhouettes taking center stage.
Sheer materials will still be in, but the new “pinch and flare” look where shapes are tapered at the waist and then flared out will be making waves on the runway.
You mentioned color will be in again for 2018?
Expect bright jewel tones of wonderful greens, deep plums, blissful blushes and luxurious blues with touches of sparkling golds and silvers. These colors can be harmonised with lavish fabrics such as taffeta, tulle, crepe, and gazaar.
Rajo’s trunk show may already be over for this year, but you can still check out and purchase the pieces at his website www.rajolaurel.com or visit his stores whenever you drop by Manila.
