Crime lab wants trained personnel

The Philippine National Police’s cutting edge  crime laboratory in Davao city inaugurated on Monday is in need of trained personnel to perform the facilities multiple functions.

“National headquarters is working hand in hand to fill the vacuum of personnel but as of this time kulang talaga ang strength namin” said Senior Supt.Georby Manuel, Director of the Regional Crime Laboratory Office.

He told the AFP-PNP Press Corps on Wednesday that the crime lab is undermanned with only 15 personnel, forcing it borrow personnel from the Davao City police office.

Since the Crime laboratory will serve in six regions here in Mindanao, namely Region nine, region 10, region 11, region 12, region 13 and ARMM, there are personnel from those region detailed in the crime lab office.

“Those people are examiners from their respective regions, kung taga region 12 ka lahat ng fingerprint cards from that area ibibigay sayo that is your priority, kung taga t13 ka ganun nanman but yung main concentration namin dito sa Davao City,” Manuel said

“We could not say how many will be placed in the crime lab but we are hoping to have additional personnel considering that the Crime Lab XI is the center for Mindanao,” Pallado added.

Due to the lack of personnel, the personnel are multitasking to carry out their mandate.

Pallado said that they already submitted the proposed staffing organization and were  waiting for its approval.

“Kung ma approve sana mabigyan kami ng minimum of 60 person sa Region XI, she said.

“As much as possible gusto naming talaga na hindi kami multitasking, kung sa technical examiner ka, yun ka lang talaga tapos yung iba sa Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) yung trabaho nila is SOCO lang rin.  Ang nangyari kasi ngayon ay kami pa mag examine, tapos mag SOCO, mag court duty pa the next day,” she said.

When asked about the possibility of the LGBT community to work in the crime lab office Pallado said “ Yes, welcome po sa Philippine National Police ang lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.”

She said they are welcome most especially if they are medical technologist, chemist, chemical engineering and a graduate of criminology.

She said the requirements needed to apply in the crime lab is the same requirement with Police Officer 1 like personal data sheet, birth certificate, transcript of records, eligibility.

“The only difference is that after the training in PO1 and they are assigned to their respective unit that is when the specialization training of SOCO will start,” she said.
