A SUSPECTED drug peddler and robbery artist suspect died during a drug buy-bust operation when he made the mistake of shooting the responding officer at Purok 3 Isla Verde, Brgy. 23-C, Quezon Boulevard, Davao City at around 11:19 AM of June 29, Friday.
The Sta. Ana Police officers identified the victim as Carlo Cabahug Egot, 23, jobless and resident of the same area.
Investigation revealed that after a police poseur buyer was able to procure one piece elongated heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu in return of the P 1,000 marked money from Egot, the officer introduced himself as a police and his intention was to arrest him, Egot drew out his firearm and was in the act of shooting at the officer when gunned down.
After that shooting incident, Egot was immediately taken to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Egot later died at SPMC as declared by his attending physician, Dr. Noe Abraham Paez.
A team of Scene of the Crime Operative (SOCO) led by PCInsp Florepes M. Pallado conducted a parallel investigation of the incident. They recovered one Armscor 202 caliber .38 revolver bearing serial number 1C72462 loaded with four live ammunition, three fired cartridge case of 9mm caliber and a kitchen knife.
Egot sustained two gunshot wounds in the body. The SOCO team who went to the SPMC were able to recover from the body four pieces elongated heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, one piece big rectangular shape heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and one piece P 1,000 buy bust money bearing serial number GN517250.
The pieces of evidence are now in the custody of SOCO team from Philippine National Police Regional Crime Laboratory Office XI while the buy bust item and buy bust money are in the custody of Sta. Ana Police Station.
Based on the records of Sta. Ana Police Station and reports from Barangay, Egot was also involved in robbery/ hold- up incidents in Sta Ana area prior to his involvement in illegal drug trade and he was labeled as street level target. The recovered drug items have an estimated street value of P 35,000.
