A total of 151 OFW dependents from Davao region took the national competitive examination for the scholarship programs of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Region XI on October 21, 2018 in the five different testing centers.
Petrona M. Bergado, OWWA regional director, said on Sunday that the examinees belonged to the top 400 passers who qualified for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the Congressional Migrant Workers scholarship Program (CMWSP) of OWWA.
“The examinees are dependents of active Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) members and graduating senior high school students who qualified for the exam,” said Bergado
She said the exam is administered by the Department of Science and Technology
“The program shall benefit deserving migrant workers and or their immediate dependents who intend to pursue courses primarily in the field of science and technology identified by DOST,” Bergado added.
According to Bergado, the EDSP is a scholarship program that offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of active OWWA members who shall enroll or is currently enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course in any college or university.
The CMWSP on the other hand, is a baccalaureate scholarship program mandated by RA 10022 and is funded by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
“A financial assistance of P60,000 worth of scholarship per year shall be provided to the scholar for both EDSP and CMWSP scholars,” she said.
Meanwhile, this year’s testing centers are Philippine Science High School in Davao City, Cor Jesu College in Davao del Sur, Tagum City National High School in Davao del Norte, Mati School of Arts and Trade in Davao Oriental and Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School in Comval Province
