The families of engineer Isidro F. Frayna from Belisario Heights, Lanang, Davao City and Elmor C. Zolina from Kapalong, Davao del Norte have been named this year’s winner of the Regional Model OFW Family award of the Year Award (MOFYA) 2018
The declared winner for the sea-based category goes to the Frayna family while the land-based category winner is the family Zolina.
Both families will represent Davao region in the national finals slated this December 2018 along with the other regional awardees nationwide.
On its 13th year, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office XI held its Regional Awarding ceremony for the Search for Model OFW of the Year Award (MOFYA) “ParangalsaMatatagnaPamilyang OFW” last October 7, 2018 at The Ritz Hotel at Garden Oases, Obrero, Davao City.
Petrona M. Bergado, OWWA XI regional director, said the family were assessed and evaluated according to the following selection criteria: wholesome OFW Family – 50 percent, civic/community involvement of OFW and/or family members – 20 percent, success in education or profession of OFW and/or family members – 20 percent,and success in managing family finances – 10 percent.
“OWWA is committed to highlight the gains of overseas employment as we recognize the contribution of OFWs to the national economy,”
She added that the event is designed to recognize exemplary OFW families who, despite the challenges of overseas employment, have managed to keep the solidarity of the family, able to make an impact in the community by way of their advocacies, success in the education of their children, and able to put savings through productive endeavor.
Mr. Frayna is 58 years old, worked as a Chief Engineer in various shipping companies worldwide for 37 years. He is happily married to Luz B. Frayna, a retired nurse. They are blessed with three lovely children who are now successful in their respective careers and the family is actively sponsor the students at the School of Hope and helped abandoned children and children with disabilities in Davao City.
On the other hand, Elmer C. Zolina worked as a beekeeper in Canada for more than 10 years. While in abroad, her wife Cindy took care of their two children. Their daughter, Twitchelle, completed Culinary at the International Institute of Culinary and Entrepreneurship and currently on an Internship program in the USA.
The owned a 24-hectare farmland wherein the 5- hectare land is being used for free as a demo production area in partnership with DANA Foundation. OFW Elmor, 42 years old, also conducts trainings and seminars on High Value Crops Production and Beekeeping for the lumads in Talaingod.
According to MaricelSarabillo, OWWA labor communications officer, said that this year’s regional screening and selection committee is headed by DOLE XI Regional Director, Raymundo G. Agravante represented by Eduardo P. Montreal. The other members include; Lorenzo Edwin F. Eusebio representing the seabased sector, Myrna Y. Padilla and Windy S. Rosal from the landbased sector, EspeditaChinelAparis from the faith-based sector, and Marydith A. Desabelle from the non-government organization.
