Chinatown has to look like real Chinatown

If it’s Chinatown, it must look like Chinatown.

A plan to make Davao City’s Chinatown area in R. Magsaysay Avenue and adjacent roads look like authentic Chinatown has reached the Davao City Council and Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre wants to make it a reality.

Alejandre on Tuesday bared his plan to pass an ordinance requiring all establishments in the Chinatown area to have a “Chinese Theme Façade” in the event of renovation or construction.

Alejandre, chairman of the committee on tourism and international relations said during the Pulong-pulong ni Pulong at the City Councilors Lounge that the plan to develop Chinatown as Davao City’s major tourist attraction will further boost tourism industry.

“This will be the only tourism zone with in the city, other tourist sites are outside of the heart of city,” she said.

Alejandre said that Susan Reta of Davao City Chinatown Development Council requested a resolution to the city council to enact an ordinance to have a Chinese themedface in all the establishment of the Chinatown in the event of renovation or construction of its building.

“Ms. Reta made her observation to Council that not all business establishments in China area have a Chinese themed façade,” he said.

According to Alejandre, the copies of this resolution be furnished to the Sangguniang Panglungsod , City Engineer’s Office, City Planning and Development Office, Business Bureau and to all other concerned offices, for their information and appropriate action.
