DCTO eyes more biz prospects for  Davao

The Davao City Tourism Office and Investment and Promotions Center is eyeing for more business and tourism opportunities in Davao City after the September Investment and Tourism roadshow in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore.

According to the Davao City Information Office, the delegation was divided into the Investment and Tourism group composed of Davao City officials and representatives from the private sector.

Davao City Administrator Zuleika Lopez, Davao City Administrator, said that the event aims to promote Davao City for tourism and investment opportunities to businessmen and possible investors in Singapore and Malaysia.

Lemuel Ortonio, DCIPC Head, said that by establishing a partnership between the government and private counterparts in Malaysia and Singapore, the city can have more investors and tourists from the said countries.

“It allows us to have linkages with our Philippine Embassies located in the ASEAN region, as well as chambers of commerce and industry associations in those areas. These will become our partners in terms of promoting our investment opportunities and potential tourism activities to their local markets,” Ortonio said.

Ortonio said that Davao City is gearing towards enhancing our Halal industry, and the tourism group considered the trip an eye-opener on how to handle Muslim tourists in Davao City, which has pre-dominantly Christian residents.

He added that they have discussed all aspects concerning Halal certification in Malaysia, and potential partnership and learned best practices on Halal regulation and implementation.

Ortonio said Singaporeans are interested in linking with the local farmers to bring our products and importing it to their country.

He added that they held discussions with different business and tourism organizations, including fruit and vegetable exporters and importers association.

The KL and SG road show is the second investment and tourism road show undertaken by the city government, after they visited Japan in 2017.
