The Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. has turned over the Lineman’s Training Center and Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM) Facility to Korea – Philippines Vocational Training Center under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority 11 (TESDA 11) here on Friday morning.
The turnover ceremony was led by Presidential daughter and Mayor Sara Duterte along with TESDA officer-in-charge Rosanna A. Urdaneta, Energy Assistant Secretary Redentor A. Delola, TESDA 11 regional director Lorenzo G. Macapili AboitizPower ExComm member Antono Mari Perdices and DLPC executive vice president Rodger Velasco.
In his speech, Perdices said the DLPC has refurbished EIM laboratory in the training center to create more conducive learning environment that can be used to National Certificate 3 electricians.
“The facility is already complete a d ready for use,” Perdices said. Perdices said he considered the facility as the first linemen training center of TESDA in Mindanao. He said the DLPC and Aboitiz Foundation Inc., has been partnering with TESDA 11 since 2013 when they offered the Basic Electrician Skills Training (BEST) as their community-based skills training to different barangays. “We have seen how the landscape of Davao City has changed in just a few years. Advancement and progress have brought an increasing demand of skilled worker like linemen due to the local industry need not to mention the high overseas demand for skilled workers also, ” he said. Perdices said with their partnership, TESDA was capacitated with right resources and skills required and built their capability through trainings and exposures to Davao Light creating better understanding of the industry. “And can make them more effective and sustainable as they run the training program,” he said. Macapili, on the other hand, said TESDA 11 recognized DLPC and Aboitiz Foundation for being its active partners for developing local communities “TESDA 11 also recognized DLPC for its support to the government agency’s program through curricumlum development, industry immersion and employment opportunities for its graduates,” he said. He said the DLPC and Aboitiz Foundation are their active partner for its various skills development projects over the years. “Among these partnerships are the Basic Electrician Lineman’s Training Center of Mindanao (BELT.CoM), Basic Electrician Skills Training and the electrical laboratory project,” he said. Duterte also lauded the project of DLPC as this will help produce more capable and professional linemen here in the city. “This will professionalise the linemen training program and produce quality graduates that are useful to the electric distribution copperatives and other companies that are in the power industry,” she said. The mayor also encouraged young people who cannot go to college to consider enrolling this program for them to be skilled and competent.
