A father-daughter tandem is seeking the two highest elective posts in North Cotabato as a town mayor files his candidacy for governor and her daughter for vice governor.
Mayor Rogelio Taliño of Carmen, North Cotabato, and his daughter, incumbent Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza, filed their respective certificates of candidacy (CoCs) Monday morning before the Commission on Elections office at the provincial capitol here.
Taliño is running for governor while his daughter, Taliño-Mendoza, is sliding to the vice gubernatorial post under the Nacionalista party.
Last-termer Representative Nancy Catamco of North Cotabato’s second district and Board Member Socrates Piñol, both under the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban party, will challenge the father-daughter tandem.
In Kidapawan City, two print-broadcast journalists would also try their fate in local politics.
Malu Cadelina-Manar, a radio journalist for Church-run Radio DXND in Kidapawan City and winner of various radio broadcasting awards, is running under reelectionist Mayor Joseph Evangelista of Nacionalista Party.
Manar, also a provincial correspondent of Manila Bulletin, filed her certificate of candidacy Monday.
“I have decided to thread this path because God has a purpose for me. A deeper purpose, perhaps,” Manar said. “Every decision I made, God is always there as my guide.”
The city NP slate carries the slogan, “One Team, One Goal, One City.”
Another broadcast journalist, Carlo Agamon, will also seek a seat in the city council under the same party. He used to write for the Philippine Daily Inquirer. (PNA)
