Felcris Group of Companies, Davao’s premier mall in the 1980s is bouncing back into the limelight by hosting on December 8 the city’s first Inter-school Dance Competition at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym).
“This is part of giving back to this city its patronage of our company that has made us a part of its heritage,” said Felcris vice-president Stephen Y. Yap, adding the company is determined to get to where it was before.
Felcris hosted on Thursday its first press conference in 40 years with a new management mix ‘infused with professionals, new ideas and a resolve to go with the times.’
Vying for the competition are 15 teams coming from different schools and universities in Davao Region; Junior High School, Senior High School and College students.
The finalists are University of Mindanao, University of Immaculate Conception, Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Philippine Womens College, Bernardo Carpio National High School, San Pedro College, Davao City National High School, Davao Doctors College, Sta. Ana National High School, Rizal Memorial Colleges, Cor Jesu College, Jose Maria College, Davao Chong Hua High School, MATS College of Technology and AMA Computer College.
The competition is pegged to be Felcris’ grandest event to date, and is aimed to be a stepping-stone in creating an athletic association similar to University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
According to Stephen Yap, Vice President and Felcris Chain Owner, the competition aims to involve the youth in the athletics.
“We encourage schools to have the school spirit,” Yap said.
The champion for the said competition will bring home a total of P300,000 (P200,000 for the winning team and P100,000 for the winning school). The second placer will take home P150,000 and P75,000 while the third placer will receive P50 and P35.
Special categories such as the Shopper’s Choice Awards and the Online Choice Awards will also be given during the competition.
Yap said that they will make the competition annually, as they are going to make it bigger next year.
He also announced that Felcris will conduct more activities and raffle promos for their loyal patrons in the near future.
