As prices of some Noche Buena products remain stable, other in-demand product brands have increased compared to last year based on the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) list issued by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Deolly Roque, DTI XI officer in-charge in consumer protection division, told reporters on Wednesday that the price increase ranging from P3 to P10 covers brands of ham, queso de bola, cheese, tomato sauce and creamer.
During the weekly Habi at Kape press forum at Abreeza Mall, Roqueexplained the increase in prices was due to the seasonal production and the higher cost of the raw materials or ingredients.
“The SRP of hams, sandwich spread, mayonnaise, and tomato sauce have slightly increased; but prices of fruit cocktail, macaroni, spaghetti, and other pasta products have maintained its prices,” said Roque.
Roque said DTI price monitoring crew conducts monitoring in all department stores and malls in the city twice a week to ensure that food products are not overpriced.
“The DTI have already set the SRP and hoping that when the peak season comes, stores and manufacturers would stick to it,” she added.
Roque cited that retail stores and supermarkets here in the city are compliant on the SRP unless specified.
“Consumers can report any observed cases of overpricing” she added.
Meanwhile, Roque reminded the public to check the expiry dates and price tag prior to purchase to ensure that goods they buy are safe for use and consumption.
