Module set to fill up lack of culture and heritage models

A tourism officer disclosed the lack of reference materials for educators on the module on culture and heritage.

Davao del Norte Tourism Officer Noel Daquioag on Wednesday said that the Department of Education (DepEd) has yet to come up with a reference book of the said module, which would be used in educational institutions especially in public schools.

“Education should be culture-based. But then, there have been scarce of resource materials for teachers,” Daquioag said during the Habi at Kape press conference at Abreeza.

He said that the National Commission on Culture and the Arts is currently developing a module, to be distributed to the educators.

These are some of the concerns that will be addressed during the launching of the Project Dinehey on October 19 at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.

Educators from all across the country, from teachers to school principals are invited to take part on the said event.

Dinehey, an indigenous term for “coming together”, is a significant gathering of peoples of various cultures sharing common aspiration in building a fairer world for all.

Project Dinehey is a collaborative effort of the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte and the NCCA in continuously foster peace among the cultural communities in Mindanao.

The said project will feature multi-culture and art platform that aims to initiate and sustain cultural regeneration among the youth.

A series of cultural activities and art exhibitions will be held from October 19-27.

Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan from the three cities and eight municipalities of Davao del Norte are expected to participate, along with students from various colleges and universities, Junior and Senior High Schools, out-of-school youths and young professionals.

“Our target audience is the youth or the millennials who have seem to forget already culture and heritage,” Daquioag said.

He also said that Dinehey will be three-year project that will cover two strategic sites per year. Davao del Norte will be the first target of the said project.

“We are glad that Davao del Norte will be the first to showcase its promise to sustain peace and unity among Mindanawons through the power of arts and culture,” Daquioag said.
