Davao City Vice Mayor Bernie Al-Ag on Wednesday during the Globe my Business Academy at SM Lanang Premiere said that the local government is ready to assist the MSMEs whom he said comprise 99.9% in the country’s business demographics.
“We are just one call away. Whatever we can help in addressing your business needs here,” Al-ag expressed.
The vice mayor, who is an entrepreneur himself, believes in the huge role of the MSMEs as the government’s partner in nation building, through the jobs it offers.
Al-ag also said that since the administration of then-mayor, now president Rodrigo Duterte until the succession of now Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Davao City has been a “friendly city” for investors as business had progressed through the course of time.
Currently, the local government is in partnership with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) to ensure Davao will be more business-friendly to businesses especially the MSMEs.
Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC) previously reported an increase number of business establishments in Davao City in the first quarter of 2018 by 4.6% to 36,802 from around 35,200. 97% of these establishments are renewed businesses while about 3% are new businesses.
Meanwhile, Councilor Joanne Bonguyan-Quilos said that the city is now catching up to be the leading Information Technology (IT) hub spot in the Asian region.
A week ago, global strategic firm Tholons Services Globalization Index conducted a “Top 100 Super Cities” list Davao City ranked 75th from last year’s 85th spot.
The index evaluates and ranks countries and cities based on availability and quality of talent in the area, business catalyst or the level of industry-related activity and organizational support, cost of doing business, infrastructure, innovation, and risk and quality of life among others.
Bonguyan, who is the chairperson of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) committee of the city council, credit the local government’s gear towards digital transformation that made the business centers strive more.
