Presidential son and former vice mayor Paolo Z. Duterte has formaly filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for his congressional bid in the first district here.
Duterte arrived at the Commission on Election (Comelec) office here around 12:00 noon of Friday along with his sister incumbent Mayor Sara.
In interview, the former vice mayor said he decided to run for congressman because he wants to help the people of the city by representing it in the house of representatives.
He said his decision was backed by his family including Mayor Sara and mother Elizabeth Zimmerman.
“This has been agreed upon by members of the family,” he said.
But admitted he has not informed his father President Rodrigo R. Duterte of his decision.
However, he said the President is already aware of his political plans.
President Duterte bared in a press brieifing during his arrival from Indonesia early morning of Friday, he is not aware what position he is running for.
“I heard, si Pulong naman, I expect him as a son to come to me and say, “Pa, gusto kong doon na tatakbo.” Kasi alam mo anak ko eh,” he said.
The president bared he did not have talked Paolo for the longest time.
