Encouraged by the success of the Livex Innovation Summit, the Information and Communication Technology – Davao, Inc. (ICT-Davao, Inc.) wants to host another innovation summit next year that would address the needs for health care information through big data.
ICT-Davao President Samuel Matunog said that this will be the first time to bring Filipino scientists based in well-known international universities in Mindanao, who will be sharing their expertise on big data.
“This is an attempt to bring to Mindanao for the first time this activity together with Filipino scientists who understand how we can analyze big data generated by our health care providers such as hospitals and the Department of Health,” lawyer Matunog said.
The multi-center event, to be anchored by the Regional Council for Health Research and Development, will involve Davao’s autonomous universities such as the University of Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University, University of the Immaculate Conception and the University of Southeastern Philippines.
The summit aims to showcase the country’s expertise in developing technologies that are accessible to researches especially in the field of medicine and health care.
Among the issues that will be addressed is the access of data covered by the restrictions of the Data Privacy Law.
In the case of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), big data is seen to be very useful in addressing its rampant cases.
“It’s very hard to provide intervention in this case unless you get to collect information,” Matunog said.
With the help of the block chain technology, sharing information is possible without violating the Data Privacy Act, he said.
