Davao City First District Rep. Karlo Nograles is competent to take over as the post vacated by Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco.
Former Special Assistant to the President and now Senatorial aspirant Christopher “Bong” Go underscored this on Wednesday even as he congratulated Nograles for his impending appointment as the newest member of the Cabinet.
He believed that the congressman is very competent to take over the post, basing on his performance in Congress for three consecutive terms.
“I think he’s good. The president won’t appoint any official who is not competent,” Go said.
He then said, “What matters most is that the president has his trust.”
As of the writing, Go did not made any confirmation about Nograles’ possible appointment.
Karlo Nograles, if confirmed, will take over Duterte’s longtime friend and aide Leoncio Evasco Jr, who is running for Bohol governor.
Even if the appointment will be made official, Nograles may not immediately take over due to his unfinished business in his district and as a House appropriate committee chairperson, who is serving on his final term.
Nograles, who is House appropriations committee chairperson, is serving his third and final term as congressman.
Karlo is the son of former First District Representative Prospero “Boy” Nograles, was Duterte’s opponent on the 2010 City Mayoral race. The Nograles and Dutertes are distant relatives.
Earlier this month, the young Nograles was very vocal on his Senatorial bid. He later withdrew, days before the deadline of the Filing of Certificate of Candidacy on October this year.
Presidential son and ex-city Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is seeking for Nograles’ position as unopposed.
Meanwhile, Karlo’s younger brother Jericho “Koko” Nograles is currently re-election under his party-list Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA).
