A leading car manufacturing company says there is no alternative to safety driving.
Ford Philippines on Thursday conducted the second Drive Skills for Life (DSLF) in Davao City, a safe driving program held at Home Crest Hotel.
EJ Francisco, Ford Philippines Vice President for Communications, said that the program is one of the company’s corporate social responsibility in advocating road safety.
“DSLF aims to teach participants the necessary skills to drive safely and smartly,” Francisco said.
Over 200 private and public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, traffic enforcers, road safety advocates and student drivers were invited to a classroom training session at the hotel, while a driving simulation exercise was held at the SM City Davao parking area.
The DSLF program also includes modules on vehicle handling, driving in special conditions, anti-distracted driving and fuel-efficient driving.
With the implemented Anti-Distracted Driving Act, Francisco said that it is important to include it in the training.
“It is important that we address distracted driving, since using mobile phones while driving is a root cause of accident,” he said.
Other causes of road accidents are drunk driving, mechanical flaw, over-speeding, overtaking, jaywalking, turning without signaling, slippery roads and reckless driving.
According to a 2017 data of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), an average of 34 Filipinos are killed daily in road accidents.
DSLF has trained over 22,000 Filipino drivers nationwide since 2008.
Tuason Racing School (TRS) had been the long-time partner and facilitator of the program.
Ford had also conducted the DSFL program in key provinces such as Pampanga, Batangas, Cebu and Davao.
