Militiaman’s wife shot dead by NPAs

TALAINGOD, DAVAO DEL NORTE—The wife of a militiaman here was allegedly killed by elements of the rebel New People’s Army (NPA) Saturday afternoon.

This was bared by Police Regional Office (PRO 11) regional director Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales in an interview on Monday afternoon.

Morales said the Talaingod Municipal Police Station identified  the victim as Gina Mantayona, 23, wife of Mario Mantayona a civilian active auxiliary of 56 Infantry Battalion (IB), resident of Sitio Nasilaban Proper, Baragay Palma Gil.

He said initial investigation bared that during the incident around Mario Mantayona was on duty status when two gunshots were fired upon their house, unfortunately hitting his wife who sustained gunshot wound at the right portion of her abdomen.

The victim was rushed to Davao del Norte Hospital -Kapalong Zone, however due to her critical condition, she was immediately referred to Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Tagum City but was declared dead on arrival about 7:00 of same date.

Morales said the report 56IB bared that the suspects of the crime were believed to be members of Guerilla Front 55, led by a certain of Rommel Tausan.

Morales ordered Talaingod MPS to conduct in-depth investigation and to arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible.

“We condemn such vicious attacks on civilians by the Communist terrorist CPP NPA, ” he said.

He said they will give justice to the family of the victims and will file appropriate charges against them.
