27 passengers hurt in town bus mishap

At least 27 passengers were injured  when the public utility bus they were boarding developed brake failure in the town of Mawab, Compostela Valley Province on Sunday afternoon.

This was confirmed by Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Chief Insp. Jason Baria who reported in a text message that the vehicle involved is a unit of the Davao Metro Bus Shuttle company.

The report of the Mawab Municipal Police Station indicated that the incident happened at Barangay Malinawon around 4:00 p.m. of January 6 when the driver of the bus bound for Veruela, Agusan del Sur lost control of the brake.

The bus was plying the highway from Tagum City, Davao del Norte to Nabunturan, Compostela Valley when the driver tried to apply brake but failed causing the vehicle swerve and fall to the left shoulder of the road where the drainage canal was located.

Baria identified as Danvic Camino, 44, who was injured together with his unidentified  bus conductor.

He said the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management team immediately responded by brining immediate the injured passengers to Davao Doctors Community hospital at Mawab and the Davao Medical Regional Center in Tagum City.

Baria said as of this writing, all victims only sustained minor injuries on the incident.

But he said, the bus company is willing to shoulder the hospital expenses of the victims.
