Cops kill suspect in Tugbok shootout

A robbery suspect was killed in a shootout with police officers when he was about to be arrested near Matina Biao Elementary School in Tugbok District, Davao City on Tuesday morning.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan identified the slain suspect as Julius Buot of Purok 3 Barangay Matina Biao.

Gaspan said Buot was wanted for a series of robbery incidents in the city victimizing delivery trucks during night time.

She said about 8:15 a.m. of January 15, police operatives went to the area to arrest the suspect after receiving an information he was seen near the school armed with a pistol in his waist. 

“Further information disclosed that suspect was seen shadowing delivery panels that were passing along the road of Matina Biao,” she said 

Gaspan said around 10:30 a.m. of the same date, police officers arrived in the place and saw the suspect and told Buot to surrender. However, instead of submitting himself, the suspect reportedly fired at the police prompting law enforcers to return fire.

She said Buot sustained mutiple gunshot wounds in the head and body and immediately brought to Holy Spirit in Barangay Mintal but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) 11 recovered from the crime scene a caliber .45 pistol with magazine loaded with six bullets, a motorcycle and a 9mm sub machine gun loaded with 14ammunition.

Gaspan said the SOCO 11 team also recovered inside the suspect’s sling bag three magazines loaded with ammunition, cash money of undetermined amount and a cellular phone.

She also said during the followup operation at the house of Buot that the live in partner of the suspect identified as Zenith Evardone, voluntary turned over to the operatives the four cellphones, two tablets and a sweatshirt believed to be used by the suspect in his robbery holdup activities.
