The Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring in Maco, Compostela Valley is closed for rehabilitation on February 4-17, 2019.
Through Resolution 03-19, the barangay officials of Mainit, Maco town ordered the temporary closure citing the effects of the increase of tourists in the area including sanitation and general order that might lead to the degradation of the spring.
In a text message, Mainit Barangay Captain Michelle Lim disclosed that the tourist arrival during weekends reaches to as many as 600 persons.
Lim also shared that the rehabilitation activities, jointly undertaken by the barangay and the municipal government of Maco, will include cleaning of wastes and litters; establishment of proper waste disposal system; clearing of trees in slopes that might caused tourists to fall; and repair of comfort rooms, change room and barbecue house.

Since early 2018, the Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring has been one of the prime destinations in Compostela Valley as it has been included in the health and wellness loop of the provincial tourism activities.
Apart from enjoying the hot waters from the spring, the resort also offers massages from the Mainit Community Workers Wellness Association.
While waiting for the reopening of the hot spring on February 18, Maco tourism officer designate Jiesel Mae Nazareno recommended for tourists to try and visit the Lake Leonard, which is a 15 to 20-minute ride from the Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring.
Nazareno said that aside from enjoying its beauty, tourists may also experience camping, birdwatching, bamboo rafting, swimming and fishing in Lake Leonard. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
