Woman dies as 2 more fires hit city in 2 days

Less than 24 hours after a fire gutted down more than 200 houses in Purok 4, Barangay 23-C on Wednesday afternoon, two more fire incidents struck different barangays of Davao City.

Nearly three hours after the fourth alarm fire in Purok 4 was declared fire out, a third alarm fire sparked at Purok 13, Kasilak in Barangay 76-A which lasted for almost two hours and burned down six houses while partially damaging two others.

SF03 Ramil Gillado of the Bureau Fire Protection (BFP) reputed that the fire originated at the house of a certain Rhodora Elladora. Gillado said the probable cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

“Pero ginatanaw nato ang ‘cause’ ani kay nag gikan sa pag luto, tapos kahoy ang gamit mao tong nay tendency na nag rekindle tapos naa’y baga na nahulog didto dapit sa oil dump site duol sa kusina mao to paspas ang ignition,” he said.

The fire broke out at 7:50 pm and was declared fire out at 10:10 pm.

No death and casualties were reported.

On Thursday, February 21, a second alarm fire engulfed a house in Toyota Street, Barangay Centro Agdao that took the life of a certain Adela Abad, 61 years old, sister of house owner Armida Bioco, 51.

Based on reports, the fire originated from the walling portion of the stock room of Antonio Bioco, 59, with the probable cause of electrical arcing.

The three consecutive fire incidents in the city forced the BFP to strengthen its fire awareness and prevention program.

Gillardo was referring to the BFP’s Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan (OLP) progam which was launched on August 2018. It will be a whole-year round program that will be rolled out in different communities.

“Tudluan namo sila diri sa mag buhat ug fire prevention program sa ilahang mga barangay ug unsaon pag identify sa problems during fire incident,” he said.

Gillardo, meanwhile, encouraged the people especially to those from barangay as a first responder to observant.

“Dili na nato paabuton na mabiktima pa ta kay back to zero gyud tanan atoang gipaningkamutan sa pila ka tuig,” he said.
