The City of Mati under Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat is raising by 200% the annual pension senior citizens will be receiving from the local government unit starting next year.
In her speech before senior citizens from Barangay Central Tuesday morning, October 8, Mayor Michelle said her administration will give pension to an estimated 4,095 indigent senior citizens of the city.
In the past, senior citizens receive an annual pension of P1,000 each from the local government.
By 2020, Mayor Michelle said she will give P500 pension every quarter for each of the senior citizens for a total amount of P2,000 each per year.
Mayor Michelle acknowledged the effort of the senior citizens to come up with such a memorable event for the celebration of the Senior Citizen Month.
She also announced the releasing of P10,000 per chapter of senior citizens group for the celebration.
The Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs-Mati Chapter conducted the initial program for the the Senior Citizen Day Celebration with a theme “Healthy and Productive Aging starts with ME”. Celebrations will be happening the whole month of October for all of the 26 barangays in the City of Mati.
Tuesday’s event was held at Barangay Central Covered Court. The event was spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs of the City of Mati under OSCA Head Gliceria S. Adlaon in partnership with the Barangay Central Council.
Gracing the event were Mayor Rabat, Congressman Mayo Z. Almario, councilors Rogelio Pabio and Arman T. Valera, CSWDO Head Virginia T. Almaida, Barangay Central captain Danny Macaubos, Senior Citizen Federation president Hedolito P. Niez, and barangay officials and senior citizens. Based on the record from the OSCA, there are 8,191 senior citizens who receive support from the National Pensioners Fun coming from the National Government for the whole City of Mati and 4,095 Local Pensioners supported by the Local Government Unit of the City of Mati.
