The Davao City Council is expected to approve over P9 billion budget for 2020.
In an interview, Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang said he is confident that legislative body will be approving more than P9 billion and he forecasted that it is expected to be approved for second reading scheduled second week of November this year. However, he clarified he has not seen the itemized copy of the bidget.
“I have already a calendar of the series of committee hearings, my forecast is, we will be approving the budget for second reading the second week of November. I have not seen the budget, but I am very sure that it is more than P9 billion,” he said.
The City Council has approved a budget of P8.9 billion for the current fiscal year.
“So maybe we will reach P9.8 billion to P10 billion budget for next year. Depende. I have not yet seen the budget,” he added.
Dayanghirang, who is the city council’s Committee on Finance chair, said the bulk of the budget will go to personnel and maintenance operating expenditures that is 55 percent, annual development fund 20 percent and the rest are for infra projects.
There might be a pending supplemental budget for this year, according to him, which he said they will ask the city accountant to look at for any excesses and surpluses of the previous year’s budget and lump it together for one supplemental budget to comply any department of budget management circulars that include bonuses and increases of salary.
The City Council has approved a P1.474 billion supplemental budget for this year last August for various projects, including waste management and transport terminals for the high priority bus system (HPBS).
