The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will be giving away more than 400 brand-new fully-funded ambulance units, also called patient transport vehicles, to qualified government hospitals nationwide during the new year.
This was bared by PCSO General Manager Royina M. Garma in an appearance during the yearend staging of Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM Annex at Ecoland, Matina, Davao City. (Garma was a police colonel in the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and director of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) immediately before becoming reportedly the youngest and only lady chief of the PCSO).
“Even though we are turning over 40 percent of PCSO’s charity fund for the implementation of the country’s Universal Health Care (UHC), we still have a substantial amount left for other PCSO’s charity activities such as giving away ambulances to government hospitals,” Ms Garma bared.
She said that this month of January 2020 alone, the agency is scheduled to release 104 ambulance units in addition to the 47 units that were turned over within 2019.
“Medyo nahuli because of delay in documentation,” she said, adding that the PCSO is slated to release 300 units more during the rest of 2020.
Apart from supporting the UHC implementation, PCSO will continue its charity activities, including donation of medicines, and administration fo chemotherapy and dialysis in far-flung areas, Garma bared.
In giving away patient transport vehicles, the PCSO gives priority to poor municipalities under the classification of ‘C’ and ‘D’, according to the agency chief.
“What is very advantageous on the part of the recipients is that the ambulance units now are given for free unlike before wherein the local government units (LGUs) are still required to give 40 to 60-percent as their counterpart fund, “ she said.
“Ang hihingin lang po naming sa LGU as una, lalagyan nila ng drayber na well-trained; second, lagyan nila badyet ng gasolina at maintenance expense; at ikatlo, suportahan nila ang mga palaro ng PCSO tulad ng lotto, at sana all the way suportahan din nila ang STL, ” GM Garma said.
