The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is now gearing up for the conduct of 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) this coming May.
The CPH refers to the entire process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing, publishing, and disseminating data about the population and living quarters in a country.
All persons to be enumerated as members of a household or as residents of an institutional living quarter (ILQ) will be those alive as of 12:01 a.m of May 1, 2020.
Pepito Amoyen, officer in charge (OIC) of PSA 11, told media that they are still in the planning stage with regards to the number of enumerators to be hired in Davao Region.
“Enumerators should be locals gikan sa barangays ug munisipyo,” Amoyen said.
Pursuant to Batas Pambansa 72, public school teachers under the Department of Education (DepEd) will serve as census enumerators.
To augment the DepEd enumerators and supervisors, the PSA will also hire additional enumerators and supervisors. They will be supervised by PSA personnel during the census operations with the assistance of selected local DepEd officials.
“Ayaw mo ug kahadlok sa atong mga enumerators considering nga mga teachers sila ginatagaan namo sila ug dako nga mga IDs,” Amoyen said.
Amoyen added that they have allotted 20 days for enumeration period including the training of the teachers and supervisors.
The 2020 CPH will be the 15th census population and 7th census of housing to be undertaken in the country since the first census in 1903.
The census aims to provide government executives, policy, and decision makers and planners with updated population and housing data as bases to their social and economic development plans, policies, and programs.
“The result of the census is very important especially in making development plans and policy making and even to the budgetary requirements for the internal revenue allotment,” Amoyen said.
