Department of Science and Technology 11 Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales bared that the goal of the Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee XI is to comply with the provisions of the Republic Act 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act.
The law stipulates that the Regional Development Councils shall serve as the regional counterparts of the National Innovation Council and the RRDIC XI serves as RDC XI’s innovation arm.
In the Joint NEDA-DOST-DTI Administrative Order No. 01 series of 2020, the law aims to foster innovation in the country as a vital component of national development and sustainable economic growth.
Director Sales said, “The goal of RRDIC XI is to mirror the Philippine Innovation Act at the regional level through the regional R&D Innovation Center”.
The Committee had also invited the Metals and Research Center under DOST to present the proposal for the establishment of the Engineering Innovation Center. A national program implemented this year and to continue in subsequent years over the whole country.
Director Sales said, “We want to establish what we call Metals and Engineering Innovation Center in all the regions in the country just like we did with the Food Innovation Centers and programs”.
Director Sales also reiterated the need to translate R&D outputs into programs and projects as well as policies.
“One of the function of the RRDIC XI is to do this particularly to translate R&D outputs into policies that would provide platform for the implementation of the programs and projects in contribution to socio-economic and development in the region”, Director Sales added.
Meanwhile, the members of the RRDIC XI presented their Innovation Projects and Programs aiming for the adoption to the Regional Development Council XI and to invite other national government agencies to be part of the committee, held yesterday during the 3rd Quarter Regular Meeting.
