18,895 informal settlers receive Covid-19 vaccines

A total of 18,895 informal settlers comprised of senior citizens, persons with special needs, and solo parents have received the anti-Covid vaccines from the city government of Davao.

Mae Aquino, focal person of the Community Welfare Program Focal of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), said on Friday the city government health teams have administered anti-Covid vaccines to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, drug reformists, members of the Badjao community, drivers, vendors, and construction workers from the vaccinations conducted from August 18, 2021, to September 30, 2021, at People’s Park.

According to Aquino, this is a big improvement in the number of individuals catered daily for the vaccination. She said that 700 individuals are catered daily in September from 200 in August when the program started.

“Nitaas na gyud ni sya no dili nata mokunhod sa 700 matag adlaw, adunay mga adlaw na mulapas ta og 1,000, so naay isa ka adlaw na miabot gyud mi ug 1,400, piluon na kaduha ang maserbisyohan mao to nga ang hagit lang is kadtong dungagan nato ang workforce sa vaccination site nato,” Aquino said.

She also said the city government has administered vaccines of their choice.

“Gihatagan nato sila sa katungod sa pagpili asa sila komportable,” Aquino said.

It can be recalled that last month, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio through the Covid-19 task force move to inform the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the vaccine preference on Dabawenyos.

“We have a moral responsibility to let the IATF know what is happening on the ground. So we passed a resolution coming from the vaccine cluster informing IATF that there is low acceptability, without offense sa Sinopharm and Sinovac, to stop buying and stop sending Sinopharm and Sinovac to vaccination sites, and instead focus on buying Pfizer and Moderna since there is high interest in Pfizer and Moderna,” the mayor said.

Davao City has a total of 20 operational vaccination sites rolling out the Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik anti-COVID-19 vaccines based on availability. A total of 716,793 Covid-19 vaccine first doses and 583,002-second doses were administered.
