City gov’t eyeing to open drive-thru vaccination hub

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, disclosed that the city government is now eyeing to open drive-thru “bakuna” (vaccination) at the Davao Crocodile Park as strategy to achieve the target of vaccinating 15,000 vaccinees per day.

“One of the strategies to achieve 15,000 per day vaccinees, the city will be doing drive-thru bakuna, kung nakabuhat ta ug drive-thru na swabbing, we are also eyeing drive-thru bakuna at the Davao Crocodile Park kay mao man ang pinaka feasible na space kung mag drive-thru,” Schlosser said on Wednesday.

Last Month, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio pronounced that the city will be ramping up its daily vaccination from 10,000 to 15,000 vaccinees per day to achieve the targeted herd immunity before the end of this year.

The city government has opened more vaccination sites and implemented sectoral vaccination as strategies to help achieve the target.

The latest undertaking was the establishment of “Bakuna Nights” at San Roque Elementary School aiming to cater to individuals who cannot go to vaccination hubs during daytime, especially those who are working, which is part of the city’s innovative means to cover more people in its vaccination drive.

“Magpadayon ang atoang Bakuna Nights daily except Saturday and Sunday. It will start 5 pm to 7:30 pm cut off pero nagapadayon hangtod naa pa’y tao. Its a really convenient time para sa atoang mga workers, dili na sila mag-absent or mananghid pa sa ilahang mga employers para magpabakuna because they have this chance na po,” Schlosser said.

She added that she will recommend to the Vaccination Cluster of establishing also an evening vaccination (Bakuna Nights) in Toril.

Another strategy that the city is doing is the mobile vaccination drive of the City Council.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) rolled out the mobile vaccination after Mayor Sara sought the support of the city council members to set up their vaccination teams.

Schlosser said a total of 11,000 vaccinees benefited from the mobile vaccination from September 22 to 26, 2021.

“In fact, nakit-an ni sa Covid 19 task force na very effective ang way of vaccination sa atoang mga councilors as one of our targets is to vaccinate 15,000 a day, it was noted atong mga sectoral halos na vaccinate na tanan katong mga different priorities. Halos tanan na priority na vaccinate na nato tanan. Pero naa pa uba’y uba’y didto na naa sa barangay so we are going down to the barangay level,” she said.

She added that apart from bringing the vaccination drive to the barangay level, the city will also bring the information drive to the barangay level as there is still hesitation from the community, although, the various priority groups were already inoculated.

“Naa man gyud uba’y uba’y didto na maskin na serve na ang prioritization dili pa gyud sila convince, so aside sa dalhon nato didto ang vaccination, dalahon pud nato ang info drive sa barangay with the help of the barangay officials. Tanan na estratehiya na convenient sa mga katawhan, gina-studyhan kung posible ug kung guapo ang reception sa mga tao,” she said.
