The city government of Davao can now start vaccinating 12 to 17 years old.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced through her Facebook Page that the city government has been given recently a notice by the national government that the city can start giving vaccination for 12 to 17 years old on October 15, 2021.
“We are just waiting for the guidelines of Department of Health (DOH). If they say there is a need for pre-registration, we will do it,” the mayor posted.
It can be recalled that the city government waited for the final guidelines on the children’s anti-Covid vaccination from the DOH.
“Gahulat ta sa DOH, kung ang DOH moingon nga i—preregister ang vaccinees then we will do that,” said Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of Davao City Covid-19 Task Force.
Schlosser also noted that this development is interesting since there are parents who are fully vaccinated inquiring about the vaccination rollout for children because they prefer that their children will also be vaccinated.
Apart from the vaccination for children and the general population, the National Covid-19 Task Force Vaccination Operations Center through its Advisory No. 89, has issued guidance on the vaccination of Public and Private School Teaching and Non-Teaching Personnel in Educational Institutions.
Through this advisory, all regional and local vaccination operation centers, implementing units and vaccination sites, and educational institutions are directed to ensure the vaccination of public and private teaching and non-teaching personnel in educational institutions to support the ongoing preparations for the eventual re-opening of limited face-to-face classes for students, especially in basic education institutions, and to ensure the continuity of students’ learning during the pandemic.
Mayor Sara already announced that unvaccinated teaching staff are not allowed to teach specifically in the five schools that are submitted to the Department of Education for the pilot testing of face-to-face classes.
