Davao port urges logistics companies to establish hub in Davao Region

Bureau of Customs (BOC) Davao District Collector lawyer Erastus Sandino B. Austria urged Manila-based logistics companies to establish a hub in Davao Region.

Austria promised logistics companies namely Angkas, E-taily, OneLGC, and Ninja Van that the Port of Davao will extend assistance to them when they explore creating a hub in the region.

The said logistics companies talked about their services and how they can further expedite the movement of goods coming in and out of Mindanao during the 2021 Davao Investment Conference (Davao ICON 2021) pre-conference “Mindanao as a Logistics Hub of ASEAN, First and Last Mile Logistics” on October 27, 2021, via Zoom.

Austria also emphasised that Davao Region is a viable and good destination for direct investments and an excellent logistics hub.

“The attitude here in the port of Davao is realignment with the policy implementation with the needs of our stakeholders. At the end of the day when you removed the power of the agency, the bottom line is we are service provider and you are our clients. The relationship is that simple really,” he said.

On the other hand, Austria shared that since the beginning of the pandemic the Port of Davao has implemented stricter protocols to contain transmission of Covd-19.

“To the extent that some of the processors were complaining but the idea behind it is we want to keep the workplace safe and secure because we could not afford to shut down in any unit or sub-unit in the port,” he said.
